Restoring an etcd Snapshot

On a kubeadm cluster you took a backup with etcdctl snapshot save /opt/snap.db. After an accidental deletion you run etcdutl snapshot restore /opt/snap.db --data-dir /var/lib/etcd-restore. The command succeeds, but kubectl get deploy still shows the current (broken) state. What step is missing?
