Restore One File from a Backup Archive

easy 10 XP ~5 minHands-on lab

Someone overwrote a config file and you need the version from last night's backup. The backup is large, so you must not unpack all of it.

The archive /srv/lab/bundle/payload.tar.gz contains a payload/ directory tree.

Task

  • Extract only payload/conf/telemetry.conf into /home/student/restore, keeping the archive's directory structure.
  • The file must end up at /home/student/restore/payload/conf/telemetry.conf and be owned by student.
  • Do not extract any other member, and leave the archive in place.
