Shrinking XFS vs ext4
A colleague wants to give back 20 GiB from an over-sized logical volume so it can be used elsewhere. Which statement about shrinking the filesystem on it is correct?
Choose one answer
XFS can be shrunk with xfs_growfs -D to a smaller size; ext4 cannot be shrunk at all.
xfs_growfs -D
XFS cannot be shrunk; ext4 can be shrunk, but only while unmounted (after e2fsck -f).
e2fsck -f
ext4 can only be shrunk if it was created with mkfs.ext4 -O shrink; XFS shrinks normally.
mkfs.ext4 -O shrink
Both XFS and ext4 can be shrunk online with lvreduce -r, as long as there is enough free space.
lvreduce -r
