A Monitoring Check with Exit Codes

medium 20 XP ~8 minHands-on lab

The monitoring system runs checks and reads their first output line and exit code (0 OK, 1 WARNING, 2 CRITICAL, 3 UNKNOWN).

Task

Write the executable script /home/student/bin/check-disk.sh PATH WARN CRIT that looks at the usage percentage of the filesystem holding PATH (as df shows it) and:

  • prints OK - N% used and exits 0 when usage is below WARN
  • prints WARNING - N% used and exits 1 when usage is at least WARN but below CRIT
  • prints CRITICAL - N% used and exits 2 when usage is at least CRIT
  • prints UNKNOWN - no such path and exits 3 when PATH does not exist

N is the whole-number percentage, for example OK - 42% used.
