Query JSON from the Command Line with jq

medium 20 XP ~7 minHands-on lab

Most cloud CLIs and APIs answer in JSON. The file /srv/lab/data/services.json is a dump from the service catalog: an object with a services array, where each service has name, region, status and owner.team.

Task

Using jq, write to /home/student/down.txt the names of all services in region eu-west whose status is "down":

  • one name per line, sorted alphabetically
  • plain text — no quotes, no brackets, no extra lines
