Put Your Own Tools on the PATH

easy 10 XP ~4 minHands-on lab

You keep handy scripts in /home/student/tools, but typing the full path every time is tedious. The tool kctx is already there.

Task

  • Make kctx runnable by typing just kctx in every new shell that student opens (login and interactive shells).
  • Add /home/student/tools to the PATH in the student's shell startup files — do not copy the tool elsewhere or create symlinks in system directories.
  • Keep the existing PATH entries (commands like ls must keep working).

About this machine

Ubuntu 24.04 with no internet access. You are student with passwordless sudo. The grader checks the final state of the machine, not the commands you typed. Values like names and ports are generated for you.
