Stop Tracking Build Output and Logs

Someone committed generated files to /home/student/repos/inventory-api: the log app.log and the whole build/ directory. Every build now shows up as a change.

Task

Make Git ignore all *.log files and the build/ directory using a .gitignore file at the repository root.
Stop tracking app.log and everything in build/ — but keep the files on disk.
Commit both changes with the message Stop tracking generated files.

The working tree must be clean afterwards.

About this machine

Ubuntu 24.04 with no internet access. You are student with passwordless sudo. The grader checks the final state of the machine, not the commands you typed. Values like names and ports are generated for you.
